What is spiritual alchemy?

Through spiritual alchemy turn your mediocre life into a gold standard one – that lasts.

On our upcoming spiritual retreat to south India, we’re lucky to have spiritual teacher Hema Vyas along. She uses many modalities to help people transform their lives and live more deeply and truly in accord with their spiritual selves. At the core of her beliefs lies spiritual alchemy.

Each heart contains the unique wisdom to find individual happiness, success and love and by uncovering this wisdom, we will find the peace and joy that is our birthright.” ~ Hema Vyas

Which begs the question, what is spiritual alchemy?

Spiritual alchemy is the art of transforming energies and therefore transforming the self. Put more simply, it is learning to listen to the voice within.

The voice of your soul, the voice that is connected with The Divine Source. This voice knows things that you (your ego self) does not. It knows your higher purpose and it has an awareness of all that is larger and beyond the physical body which seems so all important during this life.

Many religions teach us that our goal as spiritual beings is to transcend the ego – and this makes a lot of sense. Quite a bit of good can come through meditation, detaching from material things, prayer, and making peace with our wants and desires (I’m looking at you chocolate chip ice cream).

Spiritual alchemy is a practice which pushes us, not to transcend the ego, but to connect with the voice within as we are now.

The spiritual alchemist is a person on a very specific path. A path of more focused spiritual direction. Spiritual alchemists face their fears to reach deeper levels of connection and growth. This is the lifelong path to awareness and conscious living.

You are a spiritual alchemist if you are not afraid of looking within. Or, even if you are afraid but you do it anyway! For true alchemy, a person must look at the light and the dark within themselves.

As Carl Jung has taught us, we all have a shadow side.

We spin our wheels and waste precious energy trying to deny our shadow and whip it in to shape (I’m still looking at you chocolate chip ice cream). It is when we embrace and integrate both light and dark that we first begin to listen to the voice within.

The shadow is a part of you and to deny it is to live only half a life. We are here not to achieve perfection, but to embrace being human.

There are tips for a heart of gold What is spiritual alchemy? The ancient Spiritual alchemists are most known for their quest to turn base metals into gold – but this is only part of what they were doing.

On a deeper level, they were working to transform energies.

Whether the energies of base metals or the energies of the human body or the energy of life, their goal was looking within to find what is fundamentally true and then nurturing this truth and learning to integrate this truth.

As a spiritual alchemist, you likely have either had a strong spiritual experience or are seeking one. Whether it was as profound as a near death experience or as shanti shanti as complete and total connection with God on the top of a vast mountain ridge, these awakening experiences are overwhelmingly positive and life changing experiences.

If you start to pay attention, you’ll hear an overwhelmingly similar story.

With all awakening experiences, there is a point of transformation. A point where you stop resisting your problem(s) and just let go.

Some people are capable of doing the letting go on their own, but most often, some divine force takes you in hand and irrefutably shows you the way.

This point of transformation is spiritual alchemy.

From this moment comes constant gratitude, a new sense of meaning and purpose, and an ability to tap into the wisdom of your inner voice.

If you are a spiritual alchemist or are seeking an awakening experience, join us on retreat in South India this fall. Hear from Hema directly her thoughts on the power of spiritual alchemy and allow her to lead you back to your own voice.
